Lip Sync Quality Guide
Diagnose profile faces, occlusion, multiple people, fast turns, timing mismatch, blur, teeth artifacts, and unstable footage.
Last updated 2026-08-23
Use this guide before spending credits on another attempt. The recommendations describe observable input conditions and review decisions; they are not unverified provider benchmark claims.
Maintained by Visemix. The guidance is derived from visible input conditions, the released workflow, and documented failure boundaries as of August 23, 2026. No provider is ranked without an authorized same-input benchmark.
Profile or three-quarter faces
Symptom: the mouth drifts, flattens, or changes shape during a sustained turn. Likely cause: fewer visible lip landmarks and less symmetry. Improve the input: choose a segment where the speaker stays closer to front-facing, or shorten the clip around the turn. Retry? Yes, after reframing or selecting a clearer take. Stop when: the mouth remains mostly hidden for the important speech.
Occluded lips
Symptom: the mouth jumps when a hand, microphone, hair, or object crosses the face. Likely cause: the model must infer geometry it cannot see. Improve the input: trim around the obstruction or use a take with a clear lower face. Retry? Only if the obstruction can be removed from the input. Stop when: the key dialogue is continuously covered.
Multiple people
Symptom: the wrong face moves or focus switches between speakers. Likely cause: competing faces make the intended subject ambiguous. Improve the input: crop to one speaker and avoid reaction shots during the line. Retry? Yes, with an unambiguous single subject. Stop when: the scene depends on overlapping speakers or repeated face swaps.
Fast head turns
Symptom: the lower face stretches, smears, or snaps during motion. Likely cause: rapid pose change and motion blur reduce stable facial detail. Improve the input: use a slower take, trim the turn, or select a higher-shutter source. Retry? Yes, after replacing the motion-heavy segment. Stop when: rapid turns dominate the clip.
Source and audio duration mismatch
Symptom: speech feels rushed, delayed, or continues after the usable face segment. Likely cause: the source performance and replacement audio have different rhythm or length. Improve the input: edit the audio to match natural pauses and the visible speaking window. Retry? Yes, after timing the audio. Stop when: the new script cannot fit the available performance without unnatural pacing.
Blurred lips
Symptom: mouth edges pulse or lose definition. Likely cause: compression, defocus, low resolution, or motion blur removed the detail needed for a stable edit. Improve the input: use the original export, avoid repeated transcoding, and choose a sharper crop. Retry? Yes, only with a clearer source. Stop when: lip boundaries are not visible at normal playback size.
Teeth artifacts
Symptom: teeth flicker, merge, or appear at the wrong moment. Likely cause: strong mouth openings, low-detail teeth, or abrupt phoneme transitions. Improve the input: use cleaner audio, reduce extreme timing changes, and select a sharper source. Retry? Once after a meaningful input change. Stop when: repeated attempts preserve the same artifact.
Unstable footage or frequent cuts
Symptom: identity, framing, or mouth appearance changes across cuts or camera shake. Likely cause: discontinuous frames and unstable face scale. Improve the input: stabilize or split the video into shot-level segments, then review each result separately. Retry? Yes, with shorter stable shots. Stop when: the edit relies on constant cuts that cannot be isolated.
Evidence and retry rule
Visemix does not currently publish a provider benchmark conclusion because the repository's benchmark record has no validated same-input provider run. A future public case must record the input type, duration, model or quality tier, test date, credit cost, result notes, and media authorization status, with paired input and output evidence.
For your own job, retry only after changing a relevant input condition. If a second reviewed attempt shows the same structural failure, stop and choose another source rather than spending credits on an unchanged file. Return to the step-by-step guide or generator when ready.
